From my front porch

From My Front Porch - Button

I was sitting outside yesterday morning enjoying the quietness of my home (before my boys woke up) and I kept hearing this noise up in the tree in my front yard. So I looked up and saw a couple of squirrels getting leaves and taking them to their home. So I quietly went in and got my camera and took some pictures. I guess they are "winterizing their home."

You can play along too, just click on the above link and read the rules and link back to Rachel's blog :)

Vacation Bible School

Wow, what a week we had at Vacation Bible School !! This year's theme was Museum @12627 "The Mystery of God's Great Plan" I was the "unofficial photographer," but that's okay, I had so much fun!! So I took some of pictures that I had taken and make them into a slide show complete with music. Enjoy the pictures, although it doesn't really capture just how much fun was had by all.

summer activities

Where to begin? The summer is almost over and wow what a fun summer it has been for my kids! Between Honor Guard, church camp, boy scout camp and the various church activities, the kids have been keeping busy, which is great for me, as I'm not playing referee all the time!!

All 3 attended church camp this summer, this was the first time for all. Wow, I love this camp, and they all had a blast. Water's Edge. This is the only picture I have, maybe I'll get my daughter's camera and see what kind of pictures she has on there.

This is Dustin and Steven with Harrison. Harrison is the drummer in a band called All Things New. This band is a group of students from Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois. They tour Nazarene church camps, spending time with the kids, singing and praising God.

The boys also went to Camp Tapico, a boy scout camp for the 2nd year in a row. A week with all boys camping out and doing cool stuff, yeah, they had fun !

Nicole attended a lacrosse camp at Michigan State University. She learned some new stuff and hopefully it will help her this coming spring when she plays for our school's team !

I still have 2 more summer events to blog about, but I want to wait until Vacation Bible School is all over with so I can do a slide show of pictures from the week. Also, honor guard, which I will have to wait until my daughter gets home from the Island and I will do another slide show!

From my front porch

From My Front Porch - Button

It's that time again!! Click the link above for the rules and to link up to this great photo carnival !

Now a little history about the reason for this picture I am showcasing today.

Not only was I was raised in (and still live in) a small closeknit farming community, I was raised on a farm. Needless to say I LOVE everything farming and it doesn't hurt that I have tons of photo ops!

Today's picture was taken in the Spring, while the farmers were trying to get their crops in (this was a tough year for them, with all the rain we had). This is across the road from my house. I took a few different pictures, but I liked this one the best. I hope you enjoy seeing what I see from my front porch :)

My front porch

Yes, I know it's been a few months since my last post, but well it is summer time (well, the season is summer, not so sure considering the temperatures have been COLD !) and I will try to update what we have been doing.

But first, my best friend Rachel is starting a blog carnival called From my front porch. I will post my picture first and then post the rules.

This was taken the winter of '08-'09 from my front yard. I loved watching the ducks across the street come play in the water. I hope you all enjoy this :)

It's that time again !!! The Detroit Red Wings are currently leading the Western Conference Finals 2 games to 0 against the Chicago Blackhawks. THIS is the ultimate prize !!

The Stanley Cup.... a.k.a. Lord Stanley

Baltimore Oriole

My mom has figured out how to attract the Baltimore Oriole to her backyard. Grape jelly. They LOVE it ! These were taken from inside the house with my zoom lens. I can't wait until they start bringing their babies. Hopefully I can catch some pictures of them too !!

Mackinac Island Govenor's Honor Guard

It's that time of year again! My daughter has participated in this program for 2 years (this summer will be her 3rd year) now. I think this is the most wonderful program! Not only does she get to spend a week on this beautiful island, she is working on improving her leadership skills! The girls in this program raise and lower the flags at Fort Mackinaw, answer tourist's questions and do any other service duties as needed. Congratulations Nicole!

2009 Nazarene 30 hour famine

Before this day is over, 26,000 children under age 5 will die - most of them from preventable causes like hunger, poverty and disease.

My kids participated in the 30 hour famine held at their chruch this weekend to help raise money and awareness of hunger around the world (yes including the US). They spent the night and day at church, learning about poverty, hunger and ways to help. They made blankets for a local mission as well as organized a can drive.
This is at the local mission after delivering the can goods.

nothing says "welcome to Flint (Michigan)" like....

yeah, I got a little distracted...

...because with 3 kids, things get crazy fast and time just flies by! Hopefully I can get back into the swing of blogging more regular..... But here's what's been going on here lately:

My daughter has started playing lacrosse (she's #13). This is her before a game, getting "cleared" by the ref.
She also went through a "pre-employment" training program called TeenQuest put on by the Genesee County Regional Chamber of Commerce - they even had a "graduation for the kids" In May they will have a job fair, with the potential of getting a summer job!
Well apparently blogger isn't going to let me post anymore pictures tonight, so I guess I'll just have to update later....
